What is Profhilo...?

Several people have enquired as to what Profhilo® is and what it does, so we thought we’d outline the main points here.

Profhilo® is a revolutionary ‘within the skin’ hyaluronic acid (HLA) injectable gel which has prolonged stimulating activity on the dermal cells. The most common areas of treatment include the face and neck. It can also be used on the décolletage, hands, arms, knees and abdomen to help skin laxity. It is a similar molecule to that which is found in modern day ‘fillers’ however the viscosity of these compounds can vary considerable whether you are looking to hydrate the skin, softly fill some lips, or contour a facial profile.

Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in your skin. It’s a large carbohydrate molecule, capable of holding over 1000 times its weight in water to keep the skin hydrated and plump. As we get older, the amount of naturally occurring hyaluronic acid decreases, just like collagen and elastin. Profhilo® stimulates four different types of collagen and elastin, attracting water into the deeper layers of the skin by the slow release of hyaluronic acid. Patients presenting with early signs of ageing and ordinarily would be suitable for dermal fillers are also suitable for treatment with Profhilo®. Results will include an improvement in skin tone and texture with increased hydration and firmness, reducing fine lines and wrinkles. You will create a very natural result with softer and younger looking skin.

Profhilo® is recommended as a 2-course initial treatment (spaced 4-6 weeks apart) with optimal results seen at 2 months, following the second treatment. Positive effects of treatment are noticeable for up to 6 months, when the injections can be repeated to maintain the effects.

In facial treatment, the product is injected in bio aesthetic points (BAP technique) which has been proven to maximise the dispersal of the product using your own natural muscle movements. There are 5 points per side. In the hands of an experienced injector, a slow injection technique makes it a well-tolerated treatment.

Hyaluronic Acid is being added to many over the counter cosmetic products, however although many of these products do actually contain Hyaluronic Acid, the molecule is far too large to actually be able to penetrate the skin and exert any real effect. By far the best way to get the positive effects of hyaluronic acid for your skin, is to inject it.
